WebFirst Parish stands at the top of Leyden Street, the oldest street in America and the site of the original Plymouth Plantation. There has been a place of worship on this site continuously since the Pilgrims built their fort here in 1622 and used the fort as their place of worship. The present Meetinghouse is the fifth structure to occupy the site. WebIts congregation, gathered in 1635 and officially known as First Parish in Hingham, occupies the oldest church building in continuous ecclesiastical use in the United States. On October 9, 1960, it was designated a National Historic Landmark and on November 15, 1966, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. [2] [3]
